This beautiful city of Yamunanagar has derived its name by dint of its proximity to the river of Yamuna. Being close to a river, makes this place a beautiful tourist spot as well. It is the second highest generator of revenue behind the city of Faridabad, which owes its lead immensely to its geographical topography. It is famous for being the industrial hub for the state and it boasts of sheltering some of the top sugar machinery factories, paper machinery factories and is distinguished of being the largest plywood producer. The groups of plywood factories, which churn out high quality timber is one of the primary attractive points of this city.

Geography of Yamunanagar

The city of Yamunanagar is in the Jagadhari Tehsil of the Yamunanagar district and has co-ordinates of 30.1 North and 77.28 East. The average elevation of this place is at 255 metres or 836 feet. The river Yamuna flows through this region and the canal of this river forms a primary source of irrigation for the farmers. The district of Yamunanagar has the river Yamuna running through it, which then forms the border for the state of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

This place also shares the boundary with the the district of Saharanpur, which is its neighbor and this constitutes the eastern boundary and separates the Yamuna river from the systems of the Sutlej river. The northern boundary of Yamunagar is laced with the district of Sirmour, which highlights the towns like Paonta Sahib and Nahan, thereby separating the state of Himachal Pradesh from the state of Haryana. To the south of Yamunagar is the district of Karnal, and the district of Kurukshetra is to its southwest and west. The district of  Amabala is towards its west and northwest.

History of  Yamunanagar

The city of Yamunanagar has a rich reserve of history. Initially, Yamunanagar was an integral part of Ambala and got the stature of a separate district only in the year of 1989, on the 16th of October. The erstwhile era witnessed the rule of various dynasties on Yamunanagar. To name a few, Sikhs, Mughals, Gupta Empire, Kushan Empire, Mauryan Empire, Aryans and as well as the British had dominion over this area.

It was King Ajmer Singh Behana, who had founded this place and since his son was not capable of taking good care of this place, so they moved their kingdom to Faridabad. This place was rebuilt in 1783 by Sardar Roa Singh, after it was demolished in the year 1739 by Nadir Shah.
